Fall 2025 SVLA PowerChess Program

In the PowerChess program, students can expect to learn the foundational concepts of the game of chess, tactical patterns, checkmating patterns, opening ideas, and endgame ideas, and play weekly tournament-style chess games. Each class will have a 30-minute lesson on one of these concepts, which will feature group discussion, solving chess puzzles as a class, and watching a short multimedia presentation. Following the lesson, students will play a weekly tournament-style chess game against fellow students to practice the ideas they are learning.
